Birthdays have always been a major moment for me – a celebration of another year of life in the books, a blank page ready for illustration, the ability to begin a brand-new chapter in life and an almost metaphoric fresh start.
Looking at the celebration from this lens, it’s no wonder that I treat the day like a national holiday. One meant for good food, strong libations and an incredible atmosphere. When planning my first birthday celebration in St. Pete, I came to the realization that I just wanted to indulge in a fun-filled day visiting my favorite restaurants and watering holes in town. Due to this, I opted to curate the first ever St. Petersburg Foodies birthday crawl!
This line-up of hot spots will surely have you celebrating your birthday on a high-key note and in upscale style at some of St. Pete’s most posh locales. So be sure to grab your hungriest and liveliest crew in tow, for a memorable and delectable birthday in the ‘Burg.
Kick-off the night with pre-dinner drinks at Tropez
Tropez
437 Central Ave
St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Tropez Website
To begin your night, I advise a saunter into St.Pete’s favorite coastal Mediterranean-inspired hangout, which truly feels like you’ve stumbled into a brasserie on the French Riviera. Offering a delectable array of French-infused small plates and mains, eclectic cocktails and a glance-worthy French imported wines list, Tropez offers atmosphere for days, paired with an upscale and eclectic vibe, smack dab in the middle of Central Ave.
Stop in for a special deal on 1 liter bottles of rosé or try out one of their Mediterranean-infused cocktails such as, the “Dude in Speedos,” featuring tequila, pineapple, maraschino liquor, Montenegro and lime, or the namesake “Tropez,” made with vodka, passion fruit, orange liquor, lemon and finished off with a serving of champagne bubbles. If you’re able to visit on a Saturday or Sunday for a boozy brunch seating, groups must order one of the specialty liquor punch bowls, with a myriad of spirits, fresh juice and herbs, or try the “The Bloody Marie Deconstruction,” which is served up as a DIY Mediterranean bloody mary, garnished with gigantic goat cheese stuffed dates, fresh rosemary and olives.

Take your crew up to new heights for a picturesque view of Downtown St. Pete at DeSanto Rooftop. The Red Mesa folks clearly have the golden touch, because every move they make leads to absolute tequila heaven! DeSanto Bar is the brainchild of the Red Mesa Cantina team, located two stories above the beloved Red Mesa Cantina in Downtown St. Petersburg.
The open-air rooftop immediately exudes Pacific West Coast vibes, with minimalist wicker furniture, a sleek modern white bar and pops of copper and turquoise weaved throughout. Along with a very posh atmosphere and views of the western sunsets to the expanse of the city to the north, DeSanto offers a selection of extraordinary cocktails.
For a refreshing sipper, order the Floridita, crafted with Don Julio tequila, house-infused hibiscus agave, lime and hibiscus water. Next time you find yourself strolling downtown, head on over to Red Mesa Cantina for tacos and DeSanto Rooftop for scenic post-dinner drinks!
The Main Dish at Brick & Mortar
Brick & Mortar
539 Central Ave

Brick & Mortar focuses on three quality aspects – delicious beer, wine and food. It’s easy to pass by the low-key entrance on Central Ave, with some intimate indoor, outdoor and bar styling seating, depending on your mood. Reservations are not accepted, so be sure to plan strategically when visiting with a group. This lends itself to an intimate atmosphere, that feels as though you’re visiting a friend more so than a public dining establishment. Set in the Alexander Building, a historic hotel dating back to 1919 (which now operates as a vintage-inspired office building), the architecture gives off a nostalgic feel, with dim lighting and wood paneled walls exuding an eclectic and upscale aesthetic.
Every last bite consumed at our table was quickly followed by pleasurable eye rolls or groans of excitement, as each dish took us by surprise and delight in the best way possible. We started off with one of the evening’s specials of the, freshest ceviche in St. Pete, made with fresh red snapper, avocado, tomatoes, jalapeno and cilantro and drizzled with condensed milk” per our incredible server and guide for the evening Dustin – oh yeah, the customer service was impeccable from start to finish.
One of my favorite small plates (and dishes anywhere in general), was the Carpaccio of Beef Tenderloin with a House Made Ravioli. With this, you’re being served one glorious and behemoth hand-crafted ravioli, stuffed with a sexy poached egg, goat cheese mousse, white truffle oil and Shaved Parmesan, all set laid on a blanket of tenderloin carpaccio and sprinkled with fried blooming capers (or little nuggets of salty heaven as I now like to call them).
We had to give ourselves the opportunity to try the Short Rib Fat Noodle, an incredible infusion of flavors, featuring espresso rubbed braised short rib, house made pasta, braising jus, fresh peas, crispy Brussel sprouts and an unexpected garnishing of fresh mint, which provided a bright, fresh contrast to the rich umami of the deep short rib flavors. We were also informed by our dining neighbors that the Bouillabaisse of Seafood with Coconut Milk and Red Curry Broth and the B&M Burger are beloved house specialties that are not to be missed.

The static menu is robust and exquisite at Brick & Mortar, but don’t be afraid to ask for daily specials, or better yet the secret offering. These include off-menu selections of quality beer, wine and food offerings, such as the off-menu take on the aforementioned Short Rib Fat Noodle, which is replaced with Spanish style, pulpo al ajillo, or tender octopus, sautéed with premium olive oil, garlic, paprika and potatoes.
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at Beans & Barlour
Beans & Barlour
538 1st Ave N
St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Beans & Barlour Website
An adult’s candy land, for both the eyes and stomach, is truly the best way to describe this location of wonder tucked away off of 1st Ave N. Beans & Barlour opened its doors in the Summer of 2018 to become the first coffee and dessert lounge in the City of St Pete and the first restaurant to feature alcohol infused ice cream in the Tampa Bay area. They live by the philosophy of adding “a refreshing and innovative twist to classic coffees, cocktails, and desserts, while using the highest quality ingredients possible.”
Beans & Barlour truly has a bit of something for kids of all ages – and by kids, I mean adults as well, because you’ll surely feel like a 12 year old when indulging in some boozy Almond Joy ice cream or the Thanksgiving With The In Law, featuring cinnamon whiskey infused pumpkin ice cream, with Irish cream whipped cream and graham cracker crumbles. From signature coffee blends, to handmade sweet and delicious cocktails and homemade alcohol-infused ice cream, Beans & Barlour will be sure to satisfy that sweet craving that you may be having before or after a night of celebration. B & B also rolls out one-of-a-kind seasonal menu offerings, such as the Candy Land menu, which featured costume parties and over-the-top boozy treats, inspired by our favorite childhood game, like the King Kandy Sundae.
Finish with a Night Cap at Room 901
Room 901
901 1st Ave S
St. Petersburg, FL 33705
727-290-9492
Room 901’s Facebook Page
Entering Room 901 feels like you’ve gained access into an exclusive modern-day speakeasy right on the cusp of the Edge District – like you’re in on some exclusive secret that only the most “in the know” locals are privy to. It’s hard not to feel as though you’ve been transported to a secret pub in the heart of London, Alice in Wonderland went to Oxford and this is her college dorm room conceived by Lewis Carroll – a rich mahogany bar set up with exposed brick walls, cushioned couches, a ceiling lined with upside lamps and lamp-shade-less lanterns, the bar wall completely inlaid with tiny cubby drawers, housing various premium spirits and the piece de resistance, of the wall of books, made up of rows and rows of hardcover books, that have all actually been read. This décor and somewhat quiet, low-key ambiance are perfectly curated to encourage patrons to enjoy a conversation (sans technology) over a thoughtfully made beverage.
It’s easy to be captivated by the aesthetic of Room 901 alone, however, it is at the bar where the true artistry shines. Libations are elevated a few notches, with the mastery of the mixologists behind the bar and the high-level spirit offerings, including coveted whiskies, bourbons, scotch, mezcal and tequila to name a few. If you’re not seeing something on the highly curated menu that strikes your fancy, they’ll be sure to whip up your new favorite drink based on your preferred flavor profiles. One of the stars of the show is the “Smoked Old Fashioned,” which is quite literally encapsulated in a decanter full of wood smoke, penetrating the beverage with an incredible depth and complexity. Not only can you get your hands on a one-of-a-kind cocktail, whiskey connoisseurs will feel right at home with the brown liquid offerings. With over 50 whiskies on the menu, exceptional wines and charcuterie boards, the conversation will only cease when your mouth is trying something delectable.
