Have you been to the most welcoming, friendly, neighborhood sandwich shop tucked away in the Grand Central District? Pom Pom's Teahouse & Sandwicheria is a hidden gem that many locals admire.
The menu is second to none. They offer remarkable sandwiches (with vegan options), fresh loose leaf teas, delicious salads, unique sides, and more. Not to mention, the service is excellent and everyone is very generous. All are welcome here! You can support local artists by purchasing any artwork on the walls too, how cool is that?
On my first visit in, we were introduced to Tea Mimosas and Tea Bellinis. I got a hibiscus tea and champagne, and my foodie Aunt got a peach mango tea and Prosecco. We clinked our glasses and sipped on these delicious drinks while waiting for our sandwiches.
Pom Pom's is known for their sandwiches, and that's probably because there's something for everyone. With over 20 different sandwich combinations and a Build Your Own option, the decision can become difficult, but I guarantee you'll love the freshness and uniqueness of whatever you pick. Once you land on a sandwich, you also decide the bread: sourdough, whole wheat, rye or pumpernickel. The decision making doesn't stop there. For less than $2, add one of their yummy sides of either Spicy Turkey Mac-N-Chez, Asian Slaw, German Potato Salad, Noodles with Peanut Sauce, or Southern Slaw.
Come hungry because you'll either leave with a food baby, or if you have good self control, you'll leave with leftovers.
I'm still drooling over this meal. First, it's huge! Second, it's something I can reorder and never get tired of it. The Viet Pom sandwich has turkey, carrot, daikon, cilantro, cucumber & spicy sriracha mayo. The Spicy Turkey Mac-N-Chez has cheddar, tomato, scallions and sriracha. I'm counting down the days until I have this exact meal again.
My Aunt ordered the Yellow Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich and Noodles with Peanut Sauce and she was blown away! She's been back especially for the noodles with peanut sauce, and I don't blame her. It's creamy, fresh and has the perfect crunch. The Yellow Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich has apples, red onions and almonds.
On our second visit we had the most delightful samples of their Soup of the Day and Tea of the Day. We ended up ordering both! The Tea of the Day was called New Day, a mix of new monks and rose hip.
The fresh Tomato Cheddar Soup of the Day hit the spot. The tomato wasn't too strong, and the little bits of cheddar gave an extra cheesy goodness to the overall taste.
Think of your favorite Thanksgiving dinner dishes, but on a sandwich. Mama Ling Ling's Thanksgiving Sandwich is the perfect comfort sandwich with turkey, gouda, stuffing, ginger cranberry chutney, mashed potatoes, cream cheese and a side of gravy. Wow. Just Wow. This sandwich left me speechless and over the top full.
The Woody Sandwich is pastrami, Swiss cheese, honey mustard, thousand island, southern slaw and red onions. My Aunt was pleased with the taste and portion size. They do not skimp out on any ingredients here!
I stumbled in one Saturday evening with a friend to find a community of people playing Musical Bingo! How fun! There was a DJ outside playing hits from the 60's and people all around with friends and family singing, sometimes even dancing along. We decided to join in on the fun with a glass of wine each. Surprises like these make me love St. Pete even more. They also offer a few local beers.
On the weekends, they offer breakfast items and I've heard great things about it. Head over to this gem for your next lunch meetup or if you're craving something new and unique. The place screams community and creates great sandwiches!
East meets West with themed gourmet sandwiches plus a unique blend of authentic side salads and a wide variety of loose leaf teas and a delicious array of sweets to tantalize your taste buds!
