Neighborhood Joe Coffee Shop: The Neighbor You Want to Have in St. Petersburg, FL

Imagine knocking on your neighbor’s door for a vanilla latte and oh yeah, don’t forget a chocolate chip muffin, a vegan cinnamon sugar donut, and throw in a bowl of granola and fruit. Neighborhood Joe is that neighbor, and you can skip the knocking.

This local coffee shop has it all from freshly brewed coffee and teas, a full breakfast and lunch menu (with vegan and gluten-free options), and an exceptional amount of desserts. Once you get inside, you’ll notice the local art on the wall and a huge case of donuts and sweets from Sunshine Donuts, Curious Cat Bakery and WeVegan Eats; they are all local St. Pete businesses. Neighborhood Joe gets their coffee from Gypsy Souls Coffeehouse, a local coffee roaster. The support that Neighborhood Joe has for the locals is awesome and we just love that!

On my first visit, I stuck with the basics. An iced almond milk latte, and an egg sandwich. The egg sandwich is a serious must-have if you want something fresh and delicious. It has 2 eggs, mixed cheese, avocado, tomato on your choice of bread (croissant, bagel, multigrain, GF millet & flax or GF sourdough), and you can add their house marinated tempeh bacon or soysage. The coffee was great and gave me the energetic buzz I needed. I could order this every single visit and I’d be very pleased.

Sunshine Donuts are available at Neighborhood Joe and they are my favorite donuts in St. Pete. The cinnamon sugar is easily my top choice, but there are also options like pumpkin, lavender, apple fritter, birthday cake, and more. Beyond donuts, there are also other very tempting pastries like muffins, macaroons, cookies, and more!

Do yourself a favor and get a treat, you can probably find a reason as to why you deserve it!

Avocado Toast and Veggie Omelette
Avocado Toast and Veggie Omelette

Back for breakfast and this time my friend and I got two coffees and a filling meal for an unbeatable price. One thing I cannot stress enough is how fresh our food was each visit.

To balance the pastries, sometimes you have to go with the veggies. The veggie omelette is 3 eggs, mixed cheese, bell peppers, spinach, avocado, topped with diced tomatoes & green onion. Served with a side of toast. Simple, yet a great meal to start off the day.

The avocado toast is topped with golden flax seeds, red chili flakes and sprouts, and in this case, an added egg. My friend really enjoyed it and left me a bite to try. It was good and the sprouts added a good texture and flavor. I would have added some hot sauce but overall it’ll hit the spot!

Ultimate Avocado Sandwich
Ultimate Avocado Sandwich, Soup and Iced Tea

Similar to the avocado toast, but better and perfect for lunch: The Ultimate Avocado Sandwich is made with chive & onion cream cheese, cucumbers, avocado, tomato, arugula, sprouts, provolone, and vegenaise. Half of this sandwich filled me up and it was sooo good. They have a great sandwich menu, especially if you are vegan. Instead of the veggie straws, I got a cup of their red lentil house-made soup which was packed with more veggies. I swapped the coffee for an iced black tea which was refreshing and a great pairing to my lunch. They have a wonderful loose leaf tea selection with green, black, fruity, and more.

In addition to what I shared, their menu also has smoothie bowls, salads, bowls, daily specials, and more.

If you’re looking for a local coffee shop to meet a friend or dive into some work, Neighborhood Joe is the perfect place to do so.

Helpful note: I accidentally drove right by it the first time I went, so keep your eyes open on DR MLK Jr Street N as it is easy to pass. Also, the parking is behind the building.
