By now, you've probably heard about Baum Ave Market in the heart of downtown St. Pete. It's the new space with a variety of companies that provide delicious and delightful food, drinks, dessert and more! Valhalla Bakery is one of the gems at Baum Ave Market, serving heavenly vegan sweets and treats.
Since they make everything egg free, dairy free and vegan, I wasn't totally sold until I took the first bite and thought, "Wait, this is vegan? How? It's so good!" Although I'm NOT vegan, if I was, this would be my favorite place on earth to satisfy my plant-based heart. The desserts were exceptional and exceeded my expectations. There is also a Valhalla Bakery and a sister store, Valkyrie Doughnuts located in Orlando if you're ever in that area.
Valhalla Bakery stole my heart for vegan goodies with their cookies, cupcake, cinnamon coffee cake and more!
Let's dive right into the good stuff!
These vegan cookies were the first thing I tried at Valhalla Bakery and let me tell ya, they were absolutely delicious. Each cookie was unique and so full of flavor, I highly recommend grabbing one of these on your next visit in. If you love chocolate just as much as I do, try the Salted Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie. It's a chocolate overload in every bite. The Kitchen Sink Cookie with Pecans is also a great cookie. The base of the cookie was delicious and you can tell it was home-made! The toppings are fun with vegan chocolates, a pretzel and pecans. The Lavender Sugar Cookie was more earthy. The lavender taste brought this sugar cookie to a whole new level! These cookies pair perfectly with an iced latte from Intermezzo right next door.
This Cinnamon Coffee Cake is to die for. First, the size is massive and every bite is delicious. The cakey and crumbly texture is just right on the outside, and the inside is soft, moist and airy. The flavor is just what you imagine it to be and more, full of cinnamon and sugar bites! Trust me on this, if you find yourself uncertain on what to order, this vegan cinnamon coffee cake is beyond delicious and the perfect treat.
For the savory folks, you have to try this breakfast turnover! It's packed with vegan egg, vegan sausage, and cheese. The outside of the turnover is seasoned to taste similar to an everything bagel which adds a little salty deliciousness to each bite. A great go-to choice for a savory breakfast.
The berries and thyme jam from The Urban Canning Co. is a perfect blend of herbs and berries spread on a crisp and sugary galette, topped with cake crumbles. The size of this dessert was impressive and each bite was flavorful and sweet. The berries and thyme jam was so good and fresh, it was the icing on the cake. They also offer a caramelized onion, mushroom and cream cheese galette.
Where are all of the key lime pie lovers at? You'll want to dive right into this key lime pie tart ASAP. The smooth citrus flavor is sweet and refreshing and tastes great with the graham cracker crumbles and softly whipped cream. This was the perfect size for a few amazing spoonfuls of Florida's staple dessert! They have other tart choices like chocolate wedding, banana cream pie, berry lemon Bavarian, and coconut cream.
Not only was this cupcake perfectly decorated with champagne colored sprinkles, but it was also absolutely delicious! The frosting was light and smooth and the cake was extremely moist. It reminded me of a wedding cake. I am still in complete amazement that it was vegan! They have rotating seasonal flavors for cupcakes that they make daily and they also sell cake by the slice or whole and accept specialty orders.
Sweet and savory scones, say no more! With choices like smoked tomato and basil, cauliflower and turmeric, bourbon strawberry and more it's hard to pick! The smoked tomato and basil scone was good, and I had it in the afternoon which was the perfect pick me up! I'd like to try a few more of their flavors because a good scone is one of my favorite bakery items!
Last, but certainly not least, a simple glazed doughnut. I have a hard time saying no to doughnuts because they are just so good! The glazed doughnut was super soft, light and delicious. If you're looking for a dessert to hit the spot, grab a doughnut or two, you're sweet tooth can thank me later!
Valhalla Bakery is a great addition to St. Pete's Edge District with an exceptional vegan menu of wonderful sweets and treats. Everything that I tried was tasteful and amazing. I'm excited to call this new bakery one of my favorites in the Burg and can't wait to continue trying new items that they create!
Valhalla Bakery searches out the best ingredients and makes sure that they know what is in everything so you can rest assured that your favorite desserts remain egg free and dairy free, as well as Vegan approved.
