So I’m at The Shave Cave last Wednesday and like you would normally expect at a barbershop, there’s banter back and forth. When I mentioned that my next stop was going to be  Boulevard Burgers on St. Pete Beach, one of the guys said; “That’s a tourist trap. It’s not that great.” (I won’t mention any names as I don’t to embarrass him as he is a nice guy.) So Lori and I went in braced for the worst.

I am quite pleased to report that Boulevard Burgers & Tap House is definitely on my list of restaurant recommendations.

We know that some “tourist traps” are inevitable when you live in a tourist based destination, and oftentimes they are found at the beach as that’s where a lot of tourists like to go.

We were ready to hate it, but instead, we loved it!

We started with two appetizers that had us wowed right away. The Buffalo Shrimp was the best Buffalo shrimp I’ve ever had!

The sauce flavor was perfect. The breading and frying job was superb so you had a crunchy outside with a plump, juicy tender shrimp inside, and the breading stayed in tact—it didn’t crumble or fall off. Plus the bleu cheese crumbles and Buffalo and bleu cheese dressings helped push this one over the top.

The next item is one of Lori’s tests. She is a fried dill pickles aficionado. The Homemade Fried Pickle Chips at Blvd passed the test. Just like the Buffalo shrimp, the breading stayed in tact on the pickles, and they tasted great dipped in the ranch dressing.

There are several burger options that look like they would be amazing and the choice was difficult, so to solve the indecision problem I said for our first visit it seemed appropriate to have the namesake Blvd Burger with a “Proprietary blend of beef”. You can add cheese for $1 and bacon for $1.50. We did both, but the bacon was forgotten, which is why it’s not in the picture. It was delivered a few minutes later even though we said not to worry about it.

The burger was perfectly cooked the way we ordered it—medium rare, closer to rare. It was delicious and quite juicy. I would definitely put it on my top 10 list, maybe even top 5. We enjoyed the unique Beer Battered Sidewinder Fries too.

A few different people recommended the Lobster Roll, so we ended with that. We warned them that we recently got back from Maine, so it was going to be hard to impress us with the Lobster Roll.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Lobster Roll too! No, it wasn’t like the fresh off the boat stuff we had in Maine, but it was a close second.

It’s a cozy, casual, friendly place with fast attentive service. We ate inside, but there is also a large outdoor full liquor bar with live music in the evenings. They have specials every day, except Friday. On Wednesday, kids eat free. Check out all of the specials here.

Fun casual atmosphere with great burgers, the best buffalo shrimp, and a great lobster roll too!
