Vintage Small Bites & Wine Lounge Opens in Gulfport

Gulfport, Florida – this sleepy little town on Boca Ciega Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore, although it is definitely laid-back, easy going, and quite welcoming—now gives us another reason to go there.

Wendy Ohlendorf, fashion designer and artist among other creative endeavors, just opened Vintage Small Bites & Wine Lounge.

Backed by successful restaurateurs, Tom Golden and Richard Alday of the Lure (downtown St. Pete & Tampa), Vintage brings us an unpretentious wine list of 40+ bottles, all but one under $50, with most in the high 20s to mid-30s—reds, whites and sparkling.

The food is quite fresh, delicious, and healthy with several items coming from the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market, and other local purveyors.

Yes, avocado toast seems to be everywhere, but Wendy makes it a different way every day depending on what is locally available and fresh that day.

“The menu focuses on fresh, healthy, and modern cuisine.” There’s Local Artisanal Breads, the All Day Breakfast Casserole, (I want that one), Roasted Cauliflower with Curried Aioli (yum!), Salmon Croquettes (yes, please!) all kinds of Charcuterie, and … drum roll please… a Lobster Muffuletta Melt with Brie! Those are just a few of the tasty treats. There’s some delicious looking soups and many off the menu daily specials, again, depending on what type of delectable fresh ingredients the local merchants have each day.

Then there’s the ambience. When you look up the definition of “quaint”, there should be a picture of Vintage Small Bites & Wine Lounge.

Although  it’s new, the bar being built by hand by Wendy’s father, it looks like old Florida, definitely in a good way. It’s small, cozy and unassuming. This, plus Wendy’s personality, and lovingly made and served food and wine make this a friendly, relaxing and fun place.

There’s a nice shady courtyard where there will be live bands. Upstairs is The Art of Massage, and next door is Wendy’s fashion studio, Ohlendorf atelier.

They are open now, but the big Grand Opening Party is this Saturday—details here.
