Back by popular demand…Simmer & Sift brings to life culinary masterpieces by the area’s hottest chefs. Chef David Benstock will be cooking at the last installment of the third annual Simmer & Sift event of 2018 hosted by the Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday, September 26 from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Chef David’s experience has come from working his way through the ranks at many lauded restaurants including The Modern in NYC. He at one point ran the front line at Wolfgang Puck Spago in Colorado. After a sharp focus on Italian cuisine while at Fontainebleau Scarpetta in Miami, Chef David aspired to put his own unique twist on traditional Italian dishes. Upon returning to St. Pete, the modern Italian cooking style that is Il Ritorno (which means The Return in Italian) was born. Last summer 2017, Chef David was invited to cook at the esteemed James Beard House in New York City.

Attendees will enjoy a cooking demonstration, a signature cocktail and dine on the special menu crafted for the occasion (listed below). You will also get to take home an exclusive recipe card you can make one of Chef David’s masterpieces at home.

SEAFOOD SALAD – charred octopus, lobster, grilled pickled shrimp, smoked heart of palm puree, charred carrots, micro celery
OXTAIL AGNOLOTTI PASTA – beet, parsley dust, citrus marigold, fermented fresnos
LEMON HONEY CAKE – kumquat gelato, preserved kumquat, caramelized honey, crispy vanilla

For the last Simmer & Sift of 2018, we bring in husband-wife team of Dave and Erica Benstock. From the James Beard House to Central Ave, the lauded husband-wife team bring their modern take on Italian classics to the MFA. Chef David worked his way through the ranks at various restaurants, eventually running front line at Wolfgang Puck Spago in Colorado. A sharp focus on Italian cuisine at Fontainebleau Scarpetta in Miami ultimately led Chef David to put his own unique twist on traditional dishes. Upon returning to St. Pete, the fresh Italian cooking style that Il Ritorno is known for was born.
