Please Paul, We Want Some More – Paul’s Landing – Unique, Fresh Flavors in St. Pete

We posted our first review of Paul’s Landing back in January 2019. We had spectacular food back then, and we tried some different items this time that were also excellent.

Check our first review for the background information on the restaurant, and for the delectable info on the shrimp toast, smoked wings, crab cakes, whole fish, and chicken & biscuits – right here.

Paul’s Landing is named after a real guy that actually landed right where the restaurant is located. The back-story on that is in the first write-up linked previously. The restaurant is part of the Vinoy Hotel, in its own separate building next to the pool with great views of downtown and Tampa Bay.

They specialize in seafood, local fresh caught fish, smoked fish, and other crowd favorites, like burgers and wings, but with their own elevated twist.

We started off with some of the best fish spread in St. Pete. It actually made the Best Fish Spreads list recently.

From Chef Luke Decker, “The type of fish varies but it’s always local, white fish—Grouper, snapper, etc. It is smoked in house with hickory and includes mayo, celery, capers, citrus zest and juice.”

The flavors are outstanding, there’s a good amount of smokiness, and the grilled bread is delightful with the char flavor from the grill, and great texture of light crunchiness on the outside, and soft and light on the inside. The house-pickled veggies are a nice high note counterpoint.

Next came the Grouper Sandwich, which also made the Best Grouper Sandwiches list recently.

I like the addition of the raw red onion and the house-made aioli on Paul’s. It comes with house-made pickles, and sweet potato tater tots.

The grouper sandwich was so good, that we decided to follow up with Grouper Tacos. Similar to the fish spread, the fish selection for the tacos depends on what is fresh, local, and in season. Therefore, the menu reads: Gulf Fish Tacos. No matter what the fish, they come with Avocado Salsa, Cabbage Slaw, Charred Corn, and Black Bean Salsa.

It was one of the best Grouper / Fish tacos we’ve ever had.

The Seafood Roast was phenomenal! Cold Water Lobster, Shrimp, Fish, and Crab Cake.

This one is a seafood lover’s delight. Everything is so fresh and flavorful.

Paul’s also has great, flavorful, refreshing drinks that have a fun Florida / tropical vibe, but are not too sweet or cloying in any way. We enjoyed the Blueberry Fizz, and the Cucumber Cooler.

We finished up with a dessert brand new to the menu, Peach Cobbler à la mode – orange-vanilla ice cream with orange zest. The cobbler was delightfully chewy, gooey, sweet and tart at the same time.
